J. Ko Captures His 2nd Major in Playoff!

Son started with a bad T-shot from the 1st hole. He posted double-bogey but recovered quickly with 2 birdies on hole #2 and #3. Ko started nicely with an opening par but made a bogey on #2. However, he quickly tied with Son by making a birdie on hole #3. Son allowed only 2 bogies and Ko was following Son with 3 bogies.

In back 9, Ko started strong by making 5 consecutive pars (Olympic pars). Son made bogies on #11 and #12 but tied with Ko by making a clutch birdie on #13. On #16, Son made a bogie and Ko made a par, which gave Ko 1 shot lead. However, Ko made a triple bogey on the long par 3 #17 while So made a bogie. With 1 hole remaining, Son was leading Ko by 1 shot again.

Ko made a dramatic comeback like Tiger Woods in 2008 by making the long putt on hole 18 while Son missed his par putt. Although scores are tied at +7 and playoff was expected, a nasty thunderstorm hit the golf course. According to USGA stroke play rule, back 9 score was used as a playoff and Ko was announced as the winner of 2020 US Open. His major drought ended in 3 years. His first major was 2017 Masters.
