J. Park becomes the youngest major champion!

When he made his long final birdie putt at the last hole after a perfect hybrid shot from fairway, he was not sure what his final standing would be because 2017 Open was single round event. The clutch putt posted his name at the top of the leader board and claimed himself as the youngest major champion ever in CIKOGA history.

J. Park learned golf from his dad who is a lawyer in Korea. He inherited his clubs from his dad except for his driver and woods that he purchased recently. According to Park, his new driver worked great for him to capture his first win.

He did not start golf until he came to Illinois from New York where he studied Physics as an undergraduate student. When he started his graduate study at U. of Illinois, he became a member at U of I golf course and remained as a member for 3 years. Then, he moved his home course to Stonecreek last year and joined CIKOGA this year.

His putter has a long story. Its shaft was shortened by his dad and he gave it to his uncle. Later, his uncle gave it back to his dad. His dad later gave it to him when he started golf.

As a young golfer, his maximum driver speed can reach 107mph. He normally can hit 115 yards with pitching wedge. His favorite club is his new driver which served him well for back tee setup at The Open. His personal best score is +6 at Stonecreek so he wasn't surprised when he shot +8. However, he was surprised when he was the winner of The 2017 CIKOGA Open. His favorite player is Rory McIlroy who won The Open in 2014.
